Shiigi Seki
The place was build by a wealthy Japanese family in 1980s. They spent substantial amount of money and time into the landscape, ended up never building their main house.
The property is about 1,000 sq/m. They first build two foundations using huge blue blabla rocks which was pretty popular material in traditional Japanese house history. We cannot imagine how they carry them down such a steep and tight entrance way back in 1980s. Then they build a tiny 20 sq/m cabin in the most shady part of property thinking that they were gonna live there while they were going to build the actual house. Meanwhile, they planed their landscape and planted so many baby trees, more than 10 maple trees and loquat trees, 3 huge cherry blossom trees, plum trees, persimmon trees, yuzu trees, maquis, buxus microphylla, and don’t forget a bunch of Camellia trees… every popular garden plantation you name it, they were all well grown tightly getting in each others faces. They didn’t look happy.
So we did a lot of pruning. We made sure each tree we decided to keep have enough sunlight and space around them, and the land itself also gets more sunlight and wind blow.
This place is very spacious. it’s suitable for active outside lovers. Don’t forget to mention that there is a hardy foundation never got to build a house on. It is perfect to put tents and make it into your own camp site. The foundation is in the sunny side of property and it’s about 100sq/m.
One last thing, the original land owner left the land before building the main house, there is no bath or shower space in the cabin. We are planning to build a outside shower and hot tub, but for now we recommend to go to “Onsen” the public hot spring in the neighborhood.
